Prt 4: Find the Gold — You’ve Been Overlooking It
“The more I've been grateful for what God has given me, the more things God has given me to be grateful for.” - Melissa Ingrid Lawrence
Hey girl hey,
👑: Stop Hunting Flaws — Time to Spot Your Sparkle
Look, we’ve all had that moment. The one where you’re brushing your teeth, catch a glimpse in the mirror, and suddenly start overanalyzing your entire existence. Your reflection doesn’t look like the version of you that lives in your head (or in your camera roll). You squint, sigh, maybe tilt your head hoping a new angle gives "main character" — but nah.
So you do what we’ve all been taught to do. You go on autopilot. You pick yourself apart, one mental sticky note at a time:
- "My face looks puffy."
- "Is my smile crooked?"
- "I need to lose weight."
- "I don’t like what I see."
You think you’re just being honest. Realistic. Maybe even humble.
But what you’re actually doing? You’re rehearsing rejection.
And rejection rehearsed becomes rejection remembered.
You start treating your reflection like a problem to fix instead of a masterpiece to celebrate.
👑: Mirror, Mirror.... Can we talkkkkk for a minute?
Here’s the truth: the mirror only repeats what you believe.
So I asked myself a wild question one morning:
What would happen if I stood here and pointed out everything I liked about myself instead?
I know. Wild.
At first it felt a little awkward, like complimenting a stranger — but that stranger was me.
I started small:
- “Your skin is really glowing today.”
- “Your eyes look so peaceful.”
- “Girl, your collarbone is showing off right now.”
And I kept going. A minute or two of pure praise. Not fake flattery. Just facts. Just kindness.
And something shifted.
It didn’t happen overnight. But day by day, the girl in the mirror started to look more familiar. More like someone I liked. More like someone I wanted to take care of.
👑: I Thought I Was Just Gassing Myself Up — But It Was Neuroscience
Here I was, thinking I was just talking cute to myself in the mirror.
“I see you, skin.”
“Okay, collarbone!”
“Girl, that smile? Dangerous.”
I wasn’t trying to be deep. I was just trying to start my day without spiraling into self-doubt. But apparently, I was doing something lowkey genius.
Turns out, there’s actual science behind the glow-up.
Studies show that when you focus on the good — whether it’s your reflection, your resilience, or that one dimple that always shows up when you laugh — your brain doesn’t just sit back and smile. It goes to work.
✨ Positive psychology calls it gratitude.
🧠 Neuroscience calls it neuroplasticity — your brain literally reshaping itself to make more room for the good.
🙌🏽 I just call it the glow-up God intended.
What you appreciate, appreciates.
Your brain starts turning up the volume on everything you love about yourself.
You’re not just being nice — you’re literally reprogramming your mind to see yourself with more kindness, more joy, more truth.
So no, I wasn’t just hyping myself up.
I was healing.
👑: Sis, You're Sitting on Treasure
Here’s what I want you to do this week:
Every time you look in the mirror, find one thing you like. Just one.
Maybe it’s your eyelashes. Your energy. The way you’ve been showing up even when it’s hard.
Maybe it's you feet, sis. (They’ve been holding it down for you longer than your ex did. Period.)
Say it out loud. Speak it with love. And then walk away like the queen you are.
It might feel silly. Do it anyway.
Because the more you practice seeing gold, the more gold you’ll find. Not just in the mirror — but in your life.
Then grab your My Vision Planner.
In the “Journal” section, I want you to write down everything you saw that made you smile.
📝 Speak life over those features.
📝 Bless them.
📝 And keep a record of the goodness — because when your mind tries to play tricks on you later, you’ll have receipts.
Your reflection is not an accident.
It’s art.
And art is meant to be appreciated.
➡️ So don’t just read this — go do it.
Set aside 10 minutes today. Mirror. Moment. My Vision Planner.
Let this be the start of seeing yourself the way God already does: with love, intention, and awe.
You ready? Good. Now glow.
Grab your planner My Vision Planner and let’s get to work.
👑: Next Up: Like it? Flaunt It, Sis.
You’re the light of the world — not the background lamp, babe. It’s time to stop dimming what makes you divine.
We’re not keeping all this beauty a secret anymore. You’ve found the gold — now it’s time to wear it. Whether it’s a shoulder you love, a voice you finally appreciate, or a personality that lights up every room — we’re putting all that on full display for God’s glory.
You get to shine with them. Boldly. Joyfully. Unapologetically.
In the next post, we’re turning up the wattage on everything you love about you — and showing up exactly like we’re supposed to be seen.
With Love, ya gurlll,
Melissa Ingrid Lawrence
P.S. If you're still side-eyeing your toes… give them some grace. They’ve been carrying you through life barefoot, in heels, and in those questionable sandals from 2012. 😅 Give ’em a lil’ lotion and a compliment, sis. They deserve it.
